14 girls from KS3 attended the ‘Development Fund – GO Lead- Merseyside’, course on Friday 21st March at Liverpool FA, learning how to be a Football Activator.

The course helped to develop the girls’ skills and knowledge so that they felt empowered to design, create, officiate and deliver football activities to their peers. They completed various workshops including delivering activities and officiating in football.

The FA and Barclays, supported by Youth Sport Trust have an ambition to ensure every girl has equal access to football in school.

The programme had three key outcomes:

    1. Empower girls to advocate, deliver and officiate football activities to their peers.
    2. Support girls to become activators – to understand what leadership is, the barriers girls face and to articulate and apply new skills within a variety of roles both on and off the pitch.
    3. Provide girls with diverse training experiences, useful resources and activator kit to support them on their journey.

The girls had an amazing time, developing an action plan and learning how to use the STEP approach to create SMILES during their practical sessions, ready for them to put in place next term.

As a memento of the day participants received a T-shirt and Sweatshirt, notebook, pen and whistle.
