The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde
A play about:
- Duality
- Good and Evil
- Secrecy and Reputation
- Science and Religion
Our Year 9 cohort watched a performance of the Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde on Tuesday 6th May. The English Department invited Box Clever Theatre in to deliver a performance and workshop, which will benefit the students in further developing their understanding of Robert Louis Stevenson’s seminal gothic horror. This will support them in their knowledge of the text when they are assessed in the next assessment window. The actors provided an exciting performance which not only entertained our students but helped them engage with key episodes and quotations from the novella.
What is it all about?
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is a gothic novella that explores the tension between the conscious and unconscious mind. It follows Gabriel John Utterson, who investigates strange occurrences between his old friend, Dr. Henry Jekyll, and a murderous criminal named Edward Hyde. The story reveals the dual nature of human personality and the consequences of tampering with it.
