Rome Trip

Veni, vidi, vici. “I came, I saw, I conquered.”

On Thursday 22nd May the College took 15 Year 10 Latin students to the eternal city of Rome. It was a very early start, meeting at the College at 3am for our flight to Rome. Having arrived safely and checked in to the hotel, the students made their way to the Pantheon for a tour. After an early night the students were up bright and early on Friday for a guided tour of the Colosseum. After being caught in heavy rain, the students were able to see the inside of the Colosseum and comprehend the engineering masterclass of the Romans to build such a structure, that still stands today. After a traditional Italian lunch of pizza and pasta, the students had some time to take in some of the popular tourist sites in Rome, such as the Trevi Fountain, the Domus Aurea and the Villa Borghese.

On the final day, Saturday, the students had the amazing opportunity to visit the Vatican, the Sistine Chapel and St Peters Square. This was a real honour for the students to see the foundations of the Catholic Church and the amazing history associated with the Church.

After walking miles around Rome, and many blister plasters being handed out, and that was mainly for the staff, the group made their way home on Sunday.

A huge thank you to the staff involved for giving up their time to make this trip possible. It will certainly be a trip to remember for both staff and students.
