From Russia with Love

From the 24th – 29th September the International Council meeting of the English Speaking Union took place in St. Petersburg, Russia.

As well as the local organiser providing a wonderful, enriching and entertaining programme of events, a number of themes emerged.

Various speakers from the sixteen participating countries spoke about the aim of advancing world relationships through the spoken word Lord Boateng, Chair of the English Speaking Union said. “Person to person engagement with others is so important”, and Professor Liudmila Verbitskaya, President of the English Speaking Union St. Petersburg, Russia said “The more we meet the more we are able to understand each other.

For the College Ambassador, Bruce Hicks it was an excellent way of furthering public speaking at the college, with excellent contacts made.  He was delighted to invite Alina Maciag from the English Speaking Union Poland to the college in the New Year.

As the Russian poet Pushkin said “We are all global citizens and always celebrate the Translator”.
