Whitechapel in Collective Worship
Monday 4 May 2026
“Help others by starting with the person closest to you, regardless of numbers.” Mother Teresa
On Monday 4th May, we were delighted to invite host Lill Cain, our former student, back to Archbishop Beck. Lill worked with year groups 7-10 and spent some time further discussing the issue of homelessness with our Chaplaincy Team.
Lill is the fundraising lead for The Whitechapel Centre and is passionate about helping people who find themselves living on the streets. Lill noticed homelessness as being particularly visible and problematic when she was 16 years old and she would see the same faces regularly as she walked to college. Lill spent two years seeing the same homeless people suffering and would often say hello and felt a deep sympathy and a curiosity. Lill then started volunteering for the Whitechapel Centre at 18 years old. Lill reminded our students that homelessness can happen to anyone, it is indiscriminate; Lil explored the various definitions of homelessness, some of which are surprising.
Should anyone, staff or students, have any questions about anything or want to get involved in fundraising the staff can be contacted on fundraising@whitechapelcentre.co.uk.
