Everton Star enjoys European Day of Languages

The Modern Foreign Languages Department were delighted to welcome Everton Footballer David Henen as part of the celebrations for European Day of Languages.

Head of Modern Foreign Languages at Archbishop Beck Catholic College, Collette Stirling said “We were delighted to invite David Henen into school as part of our celebrations for European Day of Languages. Our Year 8 football team were completely mesmerized by David’s football skills when he dropped in on their training session but the highlight of his visit was a unique opportunity for our more able Year 9 language students to question David in French about his life as a footballer and indeed in Liverpool. The chance to talk to a Belgian footballer in his own language was one that will not be forgotten. It was a fantastic opportunity to show the importance of speaking another language to our young linguists.”

Other activities that took place during the week long programme of events included European Form Quizes, a unique video showcasing the language skills of our teachers and a continental menu created by our catering staff.”
