The World comes to the College – European Day of Languages
“To learn a language is to have one more window from which to look at the world.” Chinese Proverb
Throughout Europe 88 million Europeans were encouraged to celebrate languages on Monday 26th September 2022 and once again the collegecommunity joined in the celebrations.
The day started with a form time quiz testing our knowledge on all thing’s languages related, a hotly contested annual event with year group winners to be announced next week in assembly.
Break time saw some of our year 12 languages students lead a French and Spanish numbers competition to guess the number of sweets in a jar. All staff proudly wore a badge with hello in a different European language for the day, with year 7 students tasked with matching teachers up to foreign languages.
Finally, the day was rounded out with a Spanish song to dismiss the students at the end of the day.
There are many members of our college community who speak more than one language, staff and students alike. European day of languages is a magnificent way to celebrate our diversity and shine a spotlight on the importance of learning a language.
We even had some staff showing off their skills!
Headteacher, Mr Stirling describe the day “as a wonderful success where fun, enjoyment and learning was the order of the day, Bien hecho!“
