College represented at Prestigious Event

Archbishop Beck Catholic College was recently represented at Buckingham Palace to celebrate the Diamond Anniversary of “The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award” (D of E).

Bruce Hicks, former Assistant Headteacher, joined other representatives from schools, colleges and other youth providers across the UK at the event which was attended by the Duke of Edinburgh and other members of the Royal Family.

Paul Dickinson, Headteacher of the College, said: “we were delighted that the college community was able to be represented at this prestigious event and I applaud the work done by our staff with our students on the D of E programme. The College is committed to developing students’ enterprise, employability and life skills and this programme is one way of doing so”.

Attended by people from all walks of life, garden parties have been held at Buckingham Palace since the 1860s, when Queen Victoria instituted afternoon events known as ‘breakfasts’. They took the place of presentation parties attended by debutantes, but have evolved into a way of rewarding and recognising public service.
