GCSE Dance ‘Shadows’

Year 9 and 10 GCSE Dance students travelled to Leeds on Monday 4th March to attend a professional dance workshop with Phoenix Dance Theatre. The students study this company as part of their GCSE and look in detail at the dance work ‘Shadows’ by Christopher Bruce; performed by Phoenix Dance Theatre.

The workshop included a professional level warm up and the opportunity to learn repertoire from the set work. The students were then taken to Carriageworks Theatre for a detailed look at the professional work ‘Shadows’ which concluded with a performance of the work by Phoenix Dance Theatre.

The students commented on how it was very insightful for their studies.

What is the dance Shadows about?

In Shadows, Bruce invites the audience into the world of a small family, possibly set in Eastern Europe, who are coming to terms with deprivation, poverty and the realities of what lies outside their intimate home.
