On Top of the World!

On Wednesday 18th March, the second leg of the CBL Tier 3 North promotional play-off series took place against Queen Ethelburga Collegiate from York.

Queen Ethelburga Collegiate (QE) finished bottom of Tier 2 North and had to play against Archbishop Beck who finished top of Tier 3 North.

In the first leg in York, QE won by 11 (80-69), setting up this ‘must-win’ game for Archbishop Beck who had to win by 12 to gain promotion to CBL, Tier 2 North.

In a close game throughout, Archbishop Beck were only leading by 3 at half-time, so some nerves began to show.

Archbishop Beck then rallied going up by as many as 18 points before QE hit some huge shots and kept it to around a 10-point deficit for them.

The final quarter was very intense and Archbishop Beck just managed to pull it off, winning by 15 even though the away side had a last chance to score with only 1 second on the clock. Luckily the ball went out of bounds.

Rafael pères-louis led Archbishop Beck with 24 points, supported by 18 from Lewis Darby Edwards, and a solid game from Year 11 Luca Shellard sealed the victory.
