NHS Event

On Tuesday 7th July our year 9 and 10 health students took part in an NHS careers event; this compromised of two 50minute sessions. These included the following;

Nursing Session

The aim of the workshop was to give students the opportunity to step into the shoes of healthcare professionals and gain hands-on experience with practical skills used in real-life healthcare settings.

Throughout the session the students got the opportunity to learn the following skills;

• Learn CPR using training mannequins
• Practise wound cleaning techniques
• Explore the importance of infection prevention in patient care
• Gain insight into how blood is safely extracted
• Experiment with medical tubing to understand how healthcare professionals support patients who are unable to swallow.

Environmental Health Session

The session, titled “Zombie Apocalypse”, was an engaging workshop delivered by the Environmental Health academic team. Using an imaginative outbreak scenario, students explored how scientists and public health teams respond when a dangerous virus begins to spread.

Students worked in teams to discuss the following scenarios;

• Analyse how the “infection” is spreading through the population
• Debate the best strategies to contain the outbreak
• Think like scientists, medics and emergency planners
• Balance public safety with caring for those already affected

The session was highly interactive and encouraged teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills.

The students and staff found the sessions extremely informative and really enjoyed their experience.
