Geography fieldwork

Year 10 GCSE Geography students recently completed two exciting fieldwork visits as part of their course, investigating both physical and human geography in real-world settings. The first visit took students to the River Alyn in Alyn Waters Country Park, where they carried out a range of river studies. Students measured channel width and depth, assessed river velocity, and observed how the river changes along its course. This hands-on experience allowed them to apply classroom knowledge and develop valuable fieldwork and data collection skills. The second visit took students to Liverpool ONE and the surrounding city centre to examine urban regeneration. Students explored how investment and redevelopment have transformed Liverpool, collecting data and evidence to assess the social, economic and environmental impacts of regeneration projects. The visit provided a fascinating insight into how cities evolve and adapt to meet the needs of residents, businesses and visitors. Throughout both visits, students represented the school superbly. Their behaviour, enthusiasm and engagement were excellent, and they approached all activities with maturity and professionalism. Staff were extremely proud of the way students conducted themselves and embraced the opportunity to learn outside the classroom. The fieldwork has provided students with valuable primary data that they will use in their GCSE studies and examinations, helping them to deepen their understanding of key geographical concepts and processes.
