Tennis anyone?

Tennis Roadshow outstanding success

The college Tennis community were overwhelmed with the uptake in our recent tennis coaching sessions with our partner primary schools.

Over 200 pupils have attended the taster sessions so far and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

The coaching sessions are now continuing after the college day. The pupils are receiving specialised coaching from our LTA qualified coach Keeley O’Keefe. We also thank Liverpool Schools Sports Partnership for all their support in helping to develop the programme.

Jimmy McGinn, Partnership Manager, said “it was great to see so many young people engage in high quality, fun and engaging tennis coaching at a fantastic venue. Hopefully, we’ll have a future tennis champion emerge from North Liverpool”

A huge thank you to Archbishop Beck Tennis Ambassador’s Harry Maddox, Finn Garrity and Jamie Lee who assisted Keeley and the other qualified coaches with the Roadshow Event. We are delighted with the huge response to tennis in North Liverpool and we’re excited to welcome more children to the sport.

Our vision is to bring tennis to the young people of North Liverpool and for them to develop a love of the sport continuing to participate either competitively or for enjoyment.

We look forward to growing tennis at Archbishop Beck Catholic College over the coming months and years. The college has outstanding Tennis facilities.

Background to Tennis

Tennis is a sport that is popular throughout the world. The modern version of tennis is different to the one that was first played in the late 19th century and the 20th century. Historically, the word ‘tennis’ originated from the French word ‘tenez’, meaning “hold”, “receive” or “take”.
