We would like to congratulate the six new apprentices pictured above, on securing a two-year fixed term contract with Rathbones Brothers Plc – an investment securities management firm based in the impressive Port of Liverpool Building, Pier Head.

Competition for these 6 apprenticeships was extremely high and over 140 young people in Liverpool applied for these posts. All six apprentices, alongside other applicants, completed an intensive one-week pre-selection programme, delivered here at Archbishop Beck, which culminated in a presentation and an interview with 12 Rathbones Executives, including Paul Loughlin and Elaine Grierson (Pictured above).

The six apprentices can look forward to two years of on-the-job training at Rathbones. The apprentices are working in a number of areas within the business and are gaining a wealth of experience in areas such as; client data handling, dividend processing, transfers and account closures, administration of Self-Invested Personal Pensions and the Small Self-Administered Scheme. These are all core operational roles within the business.

The apprentices, in their first year, will complete an Advanced Level Apprenticeship and in their second year the apprentices will study for industry specific qualifications.

Paul Loughlin, Chartered MCSI, Deputy Chief Operating Officer at Rathbones believes it marks a natural progression for the firm. “The firm offers management development programmes and a graduate programme, we felt that we could complement these programmes by having a more operationally focused programme using the apprenticeship framework. By setting up the scheme, we feel we’re tapping into people’s potential earlier on and they’re able to develop in the working world.”

Paul Dickinson, Headteacher here at Archbishop Beck has also commented on this fantastic programme. “We are very excited about this new innovative, apprenticeship scheme developed between Rathbones and Archbishop Beck Catholic College. Both organisations have collaborated to provide an outstanding opportunity for the students. At Archbishop Beck Catholic College we always ensure that we develop new initiatives that match our students’ aspirations. Our partnership with Rathbones is a clear example of what can be achieved when schools and exceptional local businesses work together. I would like to thank Paul Loughlin and all the staff at Rathbones for their contribution to this programme and I am confident it will enhance the selected students’ lives.”
