A Lioness comes Roaring into the College
Tuesday 3 February 2026
On Tuesday 3rd February, Archbishop Beck had the privilege to welcome Former Lioness Toni Duggan into the college to present an inspiring, aspirational, and thought-provoking assembly to a select group of Year 8 and Sixth Form Students.
From the grassroots pitches of Everton to the pinnacle of women’s football, Toni Duggan’s career stands as a masterclass in ambition realised. A proud local talent, Toni rose through the ranks not simply as a gifted attacker, but as a figure who helped redefine what was possible for women in the game.
Her footballing journey began as a teenager at Everton, before playing for Manchester City, Barcelona, and Athletico Madrid. She played many times for England and finally returned home to Everton to see out her career. A consummate professional, Toni always displayed resilience, self-belief, and an uncompromising work ethic.
Toni, the new Female Student Ambassador for LLS, was presented to our students and underwent a thoroughly enjoyable and compelling interview by a staff member of LLS. She reflected on both her personal and professional life. She discussed the discipline required to succeed from a young age, how to adapt when moving between leagues and cultures, as well as the mental resilience and sacrifices demanded by top-level sport.
The interview gave way to an open-floor Q&A, as students asked challenging questions about pressure, confidence, setbacks, and Toni’s inner belief. She took time to answer, giving an overall clear message that success is built by those willing to work hard, endure setbacks, yet continue to work and believe.
For the students in attendance, this was a highly enjoyable experience and one which gave great insight into the world of professional female sport.
