Year 11 Students Visit Liverpool John Moores University as Part of the Step-Up Programme
Our Year 11 students recently visited Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) as part of the Step-Up Programme, an inspiring initiative designed to raise aspirations and support students in planning their future beyond sixth form or college.
The Step-Up Programme has run from Year 9 through to Year 11, giving students valuable insight into university life and helping them build confidence in considering higher education as a future pathway. During their visit to LJMU, students explored what life at university is really like, including sessions on student finance, student accommodation, and the wide range of opportunities available to university students.
Students also took part in an engaging workshop focused on resilience and confidence, helping them to develop the skills and mindset needed to succeed both academically and personally. A particular highlight of the day was a confidence-building activity where students delivered a short “About Me in 30 Seconds” speech.
We are especially proud that one of our students, Etem Akdamar, was voted as giving the best “About Me in 30 Seconds” speech among all participating schools, demonstrating outstanding confidence, communication skills, and self-belief.
The visit provided a fantastic opportunity for students to experience a university environment first-hand, ask questions, and reflect on their own ambitions. To recognise their commitment and participation throughout the programme, students were presented with certificates, celebrating their achievements across the three years.
We are extremely proud of all our students for their enthusiasm and positive engagement, and we hope this experience has inspired them as they begin to consider their next steps and future goals.
