5 Minute Q & A with Ellie Gallagher & Mr Hicks
“One’s destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things.” Miller
What does a typical day look like for you?
I tend to fit a lot into a typical day getting up early around 6am then off to the gym before I start work. I work until about 5pm and then either socialise with friends / family or work on my online Business, which I do as well as my full time job.
When you were younger what did you want to be?
I wanted to work as a member of airline cabin crew as I love to travel and I find the 9-5 life a little bit boring. I still want to do that (a little bit). However, I worked hard for a Psychology Degree, so my thinking has slightly changed as I now find myself thinking how best to use this degree? What I could do with this in the future? So maybe something to do with counselling or mental health.
What was the last book you are reading?
To be honest, I don’t really read books. I read a little bit on Mindset and Positivity but will usually listen to podcasts.
What is your all time favourite movie?
I’ve got a few, I like the classics, for example, Step Brothers. I will never get tired of watching it and know it word for word but still laugh EVERY TIME. I also like ROM Coms but usually “classic movies” that you can watch over and over again.
What advice would you give your teenage self?
Don’t force anything in life, it doesn’t matter if you choose to go down one path and you divert into another one, that’s life. Let life take you where there is a need for you to be involved in change. Just go with it and take a day at a time.
When did you leave Archbishop Beck College?
I left sixth form in 2014 – seems so long ago now!!
What have you been doing since this time?
I attended Edge Hill University for 3 years and studied Psychology, which I really enjoyed. All the Sixth Form teachers really guided me into university which I am for ever grateful.
In my first summer at University I decided to apply to attend Camp America as summer was looming and I had no special plans of my own. So I applied and was successful in being offered a placement at Summer Camp. I worked in a Summer Camp in Texas, USA for two months. After that I then travelled the USA before going back to University for my second year in September. I very much enjoyed the experiences of Camp America and absolutely loved it!
Ever since then every summer I wanted to go travelling. In my second year, I travelled to Florida Miami, Thailand and Barcelona. After graduating I moved over to Australia on a working holiday visa and stayed for my whole visa (2 years!) then travelled to New Zealand as well. These were the best experiences of my life for sure!
What do you hope to achieve within the next 5 years?
I want to travel more, obviously due to circumstances at the moment that’s delayed but still thinking positively over it! I plan to visit India, South America, more of Asia and do a convention in Texas late next year for my online business. Once I’ve travelled and seen all that I want, I’d like to settle down and get married as my partner proposed to me in Vietnam last year! So still quite a lot to do and see.
Thank you Ellie, you certainly have packed so much in, we hope to welcome you back to the College for a catch-up in the near future.
