Pastoral Care

All Sixth Form teachers have a pastoral responsibility. However, there are teachers who have specific responsibility in this area.
  • The Form Tutor
  • A Sixth Form Student Services Co-ordinator
  • The Assistant Head of Sixth Form
  • The Head of Sixth Form
  • A member of the Leadership Team with overall responsibility
They are: The head of Sixth Form has overall responsibility for the discipline, attendance, liaison with parents and carers and general practical matters regarding Sixth Form students. Supporting the Head of Sixth Form are the Form Tutors, an Assistant Head of Sixth Form, Deputy Headteacher and Headteacher. The aim of the pastoral system is to ensure that all students are encouraged and supported both inside and outside their own school and college and that they are happy and secure within the environment.

Attendance and Punctuality

All students are required to attend school every day. Registration will take place every morning and afternoon. Additionally, attendance at lessons will be monitored using a sixth form attendance record, which should be taken to lessons and signed by the subject teacher. This is especially important for students who attend another school within the Partnership for some of their lessons. All absences should be explained by a written note detailing the dates of absence and the reasons for absence. Notes should be given to group tutors at registration. If parents or carers know in advance of an intended absence, they are asked to notify the tutor in writing. Punctuality at registration and lessons will be carefully monitored. High academic standards depend upon punctual and regular attendance at lessons, and persistent lateness reduces available lesson time.

Dress Code

A smart uniform encourages a sense of community and develops a sense of pride and self respect.

An identity card must be worn and visible at all times.

The Sixth Form management team, at all times, reserve the right to send a student home if they deem a student’s dress/footwear is inappropriate. Discreet jewellery may be worn.

Monitoring Progress

Students on all courses will have targets set for them based on their attainment at GCSE. Progress against these targets will be regularly monitored, and there will be four assessments of progress during a two-year course of study. Additionally, there will be Parents’ Evenings for Year 12 and Year 13 students, giving parents and students the opportunity to discuss progress with subject teachers. Archbishop Beck Sixth Form is committed to delivering quality at all levels, and we believe that the regular review of students’ progress is vital to ensuring that our students realise their full potential.
