The college community was delighted to have the opportunity to catch up with former Head Boy, Joseph Roberts. It has been an amazing journey for Joseph over the last two years.

Joseph Roberts is a 19 year old Spoken Word Artist from Liverpool and is a second year English Literature & Creative Writing student at John Moores University. Whilst studying, Joseph makes Spoken Word videos on YouTube and goes into schools, providing poetry workshops in the community and sharing his story. After being nominated with one of his YouTube videos ‘V.I.P’, Joseph ended up winning the award of UK’s Best Spoken Word Newcomer 2022 by Wordplay & Flow. He was then offered the opportunity to be a featured poet on a brand new Spoken Word show for television. The show is called ‘Sport In Words’ and aired on BT Sport 1 Sunday 2nd October at 6pm. BT Sport is marking Black History Month throughout October by celebrating, amplifying, and honouring the sporting contributions of some of the most iconic athletes in history. As part of its continued investment, focus and commitment to inclusion, BT Sport is celebrating Black History Month with all-new educational, entertaining, and inspiring content.

‘Sport in Words’ is a 60-minute show where some of the UK’s best spoken-word artists will perform pieces to a star-studded audience celebrating and honouring different black sporting legends. The show will also air on other BT Sport channels, i.e, BT Sport 2,3&4 at other times during the month. Additionally to this, they plan to play individual performances before advert breaks to promote the show as well as Black History Month.

This means that Joseph’s performance will be seen between matches of football and boxing throughout the month of October.
