On Ciara’s pending trip to Camp America. USA

The best summer of your life

How did you get to know about Camp America?

I had a few friends that have done it in the past and they told me about it, so after further investigation I concluded that this was something that I really wanted to be part of, experience and have a real sense of independence.

How long will you be working at Camp America?

I’ll be working in America for just over 12 weeks. So, a lot of independent learning will go on I am sure as well as experiencing a different way of life.

What will you be doing?

I’ll be a camp counsellor mostly teaching sports, but as a musician would also like to do anything involving music.

What was the selection process like?
It was quite a lengthy process involving two sets of interviews and lot of applications for various things such as DBS checks and visas but overall, it is well set out and so easy to follow the information to help fill in the various forms.

Are you excited to be spending some time in the USA?

I’m excited about spending time in America especially since I’m quite close to New York City. I have plans to travel up to Toronto after camp ends and maybe a few other places on the east coast. As St Augustine said, “The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page”.

What would you say to anyone else considering applying to work at Camp America?

I would say if you’re thinking about it then just apply. Everyone I’ve spoken with have loved it and it’s an opportunity that doesn’t come about very often. So see if it is something you would like to do.

Finally safe travels and very best wishes Ciara, have a fantastic, engaging and amazing summer experience. We look forward to catching up with you in September.
