Farewell Mr McNulty

As the summer term came to a close, it was the time to say farewell to a number of staff. However, one such person was Mike McNulty, who has been at the college for 21 years in a number of roles including Deputy Headteacher of the College community. Mike qualified as a teacher in 1978 and started his career in Wakefield and Crewe before moving to Archbishop Beck Catholic College. Mike was educated and spent his formative years growing up in Manchester. He joined the staff in 2000 as a Director of Sport, a role which led to the College gaining “Sports College” status, one which attracted, at the time, considerable prestige along with a great deal of additional funding. Mike was appointed Deputy Headteacher in 2005 and continued to use his immense talents to drive the college academic agenda forward. He had, of course, to take on board many government initiatives which the educational community had to deal with, implement and evaluate during his whole tenure. Not only was he a tall person in stature, but he was also one held in immense regard by the whole college community. An approachable, knowledgeable and energetic educator. Students knew that they could gain expert advice and a listening ear with Mr McNulty, who continued to teach History along with his demanding role in the management of the College community. The last two years saw the arrival of Covid and lock downs came into effect, Mike worked tirelessly every day at the College – supporting parents, students and staff through the “unprecedented” times. Headteacher, Paul Dickinson, stated “Mike has been an outstanding leader throughout his time in the College. His number one priority has been to support the students to be the best they can be. He will be greatly missed by students, staff and the parents/carers he has built strong relationships with over many years. Best wishes on your retirement, Mike.” We are sure he intends to spend his retirement doing the things he loves, cycling, being a particular passion, along with numerous sporting activities. And to spend more time with family, friends and his grandchildren. Farewell and thank you for all you did for the College community.

Prayer We wish you nothing but good health and joyous days in your retirement. Have a wonderful life and pray that we can carry out your ideals. Sending heartfelt wishes for the new chapter of your life. May you be able to do all those exciting and happy things you couldn’t do all these times. Have a wonderful time. God bless you. Amen.
