European Day of Languages

The Modern Foreign Languages Department enjoyed their annual celebrations recently for European Day of Languages with a series of fun and informative events for both students and staff. Within the languages department itself, our Key Stage 3 students took part in a Spelling Bell Competition. The photos show Year 7 student Obi taking to the stage with an impressive round of spellings in Spanish. Students in all years once again enjoyed the popular guess the teacher quiz. Students had to name teachers together with their previous and ongoing language skills. We were impressed by the linguistic skills shown by our staff which included a technology teacher who has studied Russian for 5 years, an English teacher who has worked in France for 3 summers speaking French, a geography teacher who can speak German and a science teacher who has lived in Sweden for 10 years. Very impressive linguistic skills and which highlighted the importance of learning languages to our students. The week was MFL Careers week. Time was spent in all lessons discussing how languages can further your career and make you more employable.
