College Summer School – Outstanding!

Broadening Minds, Broadening Horizons, Discovering New Things “Children must be taught how to think, not what to think.” Margaret Mead During the summer of 2021, we were pleased to welcome over 115 year 6 students as part of our summer school transition project. During the two weeks there were a number of different activities for the students to participate in. All students had access to externally provided numeracy catch up programme from the Tutor Trust, as well as catch up literacy programme which was provided by the College’s Academic mentors, Mr Supria and Mr Lee-Jones. The students were also able to gain experiences of other subjects within the College, such as textiles where they designed and created their own fictional monster puppets, art where they learnt new techniques for creating drawings, orienteering which provided them with valuable skills in finding their way around the College building and PE lesson which introduced them to some new sports including dodge ball. At the end of each week, the hard work and excellent behaviour of all students was rewarded with the arrival of an ice cream van for break and pizza delivery for lunch. All staff and students involved across the two weeks had a wonderful time getting to know each other. Statements from Year 7 Students who attended Summer School 2021

Jack Edwards “Summer school gave me the confidence to actually start the school as I knew the layout.  Furthermore, summer school helped me understand some of the subject I would be studying, such as DT. Finally, summer school helped me have fun, meet new people and look forward to starting properly in September.”
