Off to the Windy City

For students from Archbishop Beck Catholic College this week will certainly be one to remember, firstly, the College Concert Band was placed 1st in the Youth and School Ensemble section of the prestigious Southport Music Festival, which in itself is a good achievement, but this was the 7th straight win by the College ensemble at this festival, Director of Music, Bruce Hicks praised the outstanding commitment of the students who not only performed in the College Concert Band, but also took part as Soloists, in smaller ensemble and also in the College Chamber Choir. He added the College motto is “only the best will do” and this is certainly true of all that happens at Beck”.

Added to this five members of the music programme at the College this week received their official invitation to attend the world’s largest instrumental music education conference. Known as “The Mid – West Band and Orchestral Clinic”

The 5 day event will be at McCormick Place Convention Centre in Chicago USA, this December.

The Midwest music conference exists for educational purposes exclusively; to raise the standards of music education; Now attended annually by an international audience of 15,000 music educators, students, and professionals, the conference began over 60 years ago and students from Archbishop Beck will take part in amazing events, they will also have the opportunity to visit a school in Chicago.
