Punching Above the Limits to Success

A cohort of Year 10 boys has had an opportunity to be part of an engagement programme to raise educational aspirations and motivation to support their academic journey, as they prepare for Year 11 and post-16 life choices.

The purpose was to increase student’s confidence, resilience, motivation and potential career ready skills. The programme supported the fundamental principles of our curriculum at Archbishop Beck Catholic College, promoting core behaviour for learning values within the delivery. This programme encompassed the idea of using the boxing initiative to allow learners to channel and focus on their actions, as well as key concepts of trusting and respecting one another – lifelong learning skills.  This was followed by a series of sessions that enabled learners to create aspirations for the future, reflect on choice theory and make informed goals and choices for their future academic journey.

The boys have had the privilege to have a series of experiences, which have enabled them learn about the life experiences of some well-known successful local figures who have overcome diversity to achieve their ultimate goals and ambitions.

We would like to say a special thank you to ‘Weapons Down Gloves Up’ for developing the programme alongside us and the opportunities you have given these boys, especially to train with some influential figures and learn about the different routes into employment.

Equally, thank you to LSSP and the ‘I am Project’ for facilitating our final session, with some reflection on the ideas and concepts of choice theory.

The boys have truly embraced this experience, which has had a positive impact on them both personally and academically. Well done to all involved.
