Foot-golf

On Tuesday afternoon, our specially selected year 7 and 8 boys attended the LSSP Foot-golf competition, at Aintree Golf course, as a reward for outstanding effort and behaviour in PE. This excellently run event was a perfect way to spend an afternoon and the student took full advantage.

James Davies got off to a flying start with a birdie on the first hole, showing some excellent finesse around the green. The chasing pack soon caught up to him, with big hitters Joel Chatterley and Mason Mutch taking full advantage of some sloppy mistakes. However, Daniel McCune went quietly about his business and ended up winning the individual trophy, with an outstanding round of 28.

Furthermore, the Archbishop Beck students were in competition against the other attending schools. The top 7 scores were added together, and the lowest scoring school would bring home the LSSP Boys Football 22/23 trophy. Unsurprisingly, the lads were triumphant. With the Aintree racecourse stands as a backdrop, Mason Mutch, self-proclaimed team captain and natural leader, stepped up and after a Henderson-esque shuffle lifted the silverware high up into the air.

After all schools had completed their round, to add to the fun, the students competed in Foot-golf races. Firstly, heats within their own schools and then a final in which the winners of each heat come together. Rules were simple – the winner was the first to dribble the ball from the tee and pass it into the hole. In the heat, David was far too quick for anyone, but forgot to slow down and over-ran the hole. Stepping up in the final, Joel Chatterley, who boasts not only speed and power, but skill and elegance, making him a strong favourite to bring home the trophy and he didn’t disappoint. He took advantage of a slip by an opposing player and didn’t look back.

The boys can be proud of how they represented the college and enjoyed a well deserved reward for their outstanding effort and behaviour in PE throughout the academic year.
