Bringing History Alive

Thursday 25 April 2024

“Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it”. George Santayana

On the 25th April the College welcomed Mr. Richie Parson. Ritchie served 30 years in the British army as a medic. He now works in association with Time Travel making history come to life outside the classroom. Ritchie has previously been the College’s guide on its trips to the WW1 Battlefields. It was lovely to catch up with him again and experience his knowledge, understanding and enthusiasm.

GCSE students participated in a VR workshop to support their understanding of the Paper 1 “Medicine on the Western Front.” element.

As well as Richie talking through original pieces of evidence and artifacts, students experienced life in a trench, going over the top, being involved in a gas attack and the process of supporting an injured soldier through VR headsets.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
