University of Liverpool Languages Trip
Friday 7 June 2024
Engaging, Entertaining and Enjoyable
Students from Year 7 & 8 were invited to a Languages & Culture Day at the University of Liverpool. Students began the morning with a taster session in a new language that they had not learnt before. Some students had the opportunity to learn Serbian and others German. The advocates at the university complemented students on their pronunciation and were very impressed.
Students took part in an Olympic Games workshop and designed posters for if the event was ever to be held in Liverpool. Students produced some great artwork and learnt many interesting facts about the history of the Olympic Games.
Students finished the day by learning how to draw Chinese symbols and then created words in Chinese with these symbols. They excelled in such a challenging skill!
Students had a great day at the university and were exposed to many new experiences and cultures throughout the day. The students were a credit to Archbishop Beck and had a great time at the university.
An interesting fact about learning a language
Improves memory and brain function Learning a language strengthens the area of the brain which is responsible for memory, speech, and sensory perception. Bilingual people are better at retaining lists, sequences, names, and directions. They are also more creative, perceptive and can concentrate for longer.
