Former Student helps Wrexham Win

Last week after an exciting final at Wembley former Archbishop Beck student John (Johnny) Hunt scored the winning penalty and lifted the FA Trophy for Wrexham FC.

John left Archbishop Beck in 2006 to sign a YTS with Wrexham. Whilst at School John’s team reached the final of the National Specialist Colleges Cup final the day after Liverpool won the Champions League in Istanbul. John has had a successful career since playing a key midfield role for the team.

The Dragons became the first Welsh club to lift the trophy after beating Grimsby 4-1 on penalties after the match ended 1-1, with John scoring the final penalty goal that sealed the winning bid.

It was the first visit to Wembley in the club’s 149-year history, with about 17,000 fans cheering them on and many students of Archbishop Beck joining the entourage. An historic victory, therefore, not only for John, but for the club and fans alike.

Archbishop Beck wishes John Hunt congratulations on his successes to date and we wish him every success with his future career. A true example to our current students how perseverance, hard work and determination results in dreams coming true!
