Debate Mate

Six Archbishop Beck pupils have been making their voices heard this week after the school s Debating team took part in the “Debate Mate Urban Debate League Competition” on Monday 10th February at Alsop High School.

The debating team had been preparing for the competition each Wednesday in an after school club run with Debate Mate mentor Jack Stanley. The following pupils represented our school in this national competition:

  • Emma Year 8
  • Chloe Year 8
  • Rebecca Year 8
  • Katy Year 8
  • Emily Year 10
  • Jon Joe Year 10

The pupils took part in two rounds and won the first against Alsop A team but were very unlucky in the second debate against Alsop B Team, who just edged the lead in this final round.

The Debating Society is an excellent addition to the Archbishop Beck after-school program and allows students to cultivate vital speaking and listening skills as well as combining the key aspects of the English, Drama and Performing Arts curriculums.

The Debating Society will now look forward to competing in the Debate Mate Cup which is being held at Manchester University in April.

A fantastic effort all round and we look forward to hearing much more from these talented students soon.
