Success at English Speaking Union Final

The ESU has been dubbed ‘the most prestigious debating competition in the country’ which has the Princess Royal as its President. The performance of the Archbishop Beck Catholic College team was once again amazing, top honours to Lewis who again won the award for the “Best Questioner” and the “Molly Merivale” family shield for the “Personality of the event” was awarded to our speaker, Leaoni, this was also the second year the college has won this award. The chairperson of the team was Abigail. As Lord Boateng said at a recent gathering in London “public speaking and debating have a key role in combating disadvantage and promoting educational achievement and excellence.” Speaking after the event Headteacher Paul Dickinson said, “ at the College we see the value and the impact public speaking and debating has on the life skills of our young students and are very fortunate to have a vibrant and successful Debating Society in the College, long may it continue!”
