Top Award for Former Student

The college music department recently took its musicians for a weekend of intensive music making to Plas Caerdeon North Wales which is part of Liverpool Hope University, aptly titled “Band Camp”, our young musicians worked Friday, Saturday and Sunday refining their abilities as musicians and working hard at further developing the special ethos “the team” that is such an important part of the musical life of the college. A member of camp staff was Helen Goldsmith, a former student now studying music at Leeds College of Music, Helen was woodwind tutor for the weekend. Along side Mr. Chris Tratt, and Mr. Bernie Thelwell.

Helen recently gained a place as a finalist in The East Coast Musician of the year 2014 being held in Bridlington, Yorkshire. The heats were Saturday 08/11/14 and Helen performed “Duo Concertante” by Milhaud for clarinet and piano alongside accompanist Liam Brigg. There were 6 competitors including a pianist, guitarist, violinist, classical vocalist and a recorder soloist.

Helen gained a silver place and an invitation to the finalist’s concert being held in Christ Church Bridlington on Saturday 22/11/14. Competitors were all from specialist’s music conservatoires across England. For the concert on the 22/11/14, Helen will be once again performing Milhaud’s Duo Concertante and Aria by Bozza. We wish her well!
