Dementia Friends

As part of the commitment of the college to be an outstanding centre for not only academic excellence it also takes great pride in educating our community in major social issues. Recently, the college community was visited by Charlotte Adams, Dementia Support Worker from Alzheimer’s Society Liverpool. Each year group within the college was given a presentation on Dementia

Deputy Head teacher Paul Stirling said, “We decided to become a dementia friendly College as there are 850,000 people with dementia in the UK. The number of people living with dementia in the UK is predicted to rise to 1 million by 2025. According to the local authority in Liverpool nearly 5000 people have dementia”.

Mr Shanks PSHE co-ordinator added “this was a perfect opportunity to educate our young people about dementia and enable them to have a real insight into the impact it has on our community”

Did you know!

Nearly a third of young people know someone living with dementia.
Two thirds of young people (62 per cent) would like to help someone with dementia, but a lack of understanding could be holding them back.

Our students do!
