Steve Rotherham Visit

In July 2011, Religious Studies teacher Dave Postlethwaite contacted the Member of Parliament for Walton Mr Steve Rotherham to arrange a visit to school to speak to year 11 GCSE Religious Studies students and members of the whole school council about his role as MP and the place of democracy in society today. The visit took place on Tuesday 20th September and saw Mr Rotherham speak of his background and route into politics before inviting questions from students about his job and issues affecting us today.

The ten minute Q & A session eventually became one hour fifteen minutes! After the session had finished Mr Rotherham praised the quality of questions put forward by students and felt it was encouraging to see that this generation of students did care about politics and the problems facing our society and stressed to them that next time there is an election they should take the opportunity through the ballot box to shape the way the country is run and not rely on others to make policies which would then affect them.
