Dickensian Concert at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral
Dear Mr Dickinson
Please excuse the delay in writing, but I wanted to contact you to express my thanks and congratulations to the pupils from Archbishop Beck who took part in the recent Dickensian Concert here at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral.
It was clear that the children were captivated by the space and sound of the Cathedral. Singing in such a building can be tricky, but they did a great job, making themselves and their school very proud.
Having spend 8 years prior to taking up my present post building the largest Catholic schools singing program in Europe I am well aware of the challenges of getting teenagers to sing. A particular challenge is getting teenage boys to sing. It was therefore wonderful to see Archbishop Beck’s choir strong in number, with a good compliment of boys, and capable of tackling a variety of repertoire.
Congratulations are due to all the choir members and to the school as a whole for supporting artistic/ musical endeavour something I know that Archbishop Beck rightly has an excellent reputation for.
It takes a special sort of person to mould together teenagers into a choir, and not just a group of individual singers. The choir is indeed fortunate to have someone as talented, versatile, knowledgeable and enthusiastic as Annamarie Newton.
I hope that we will be able to welcome your choir, and indeed other musicians back to the Cathedral in the not to distant future.
Best wishes
Chris
