MACE (ESU) Competition

In the week beginning Monday 25th November, the college took part in the  Liverpool round of the prestigious MACE debating competition, which is open to all schools.

Our students’ performance was incredible: as always they set the competition alight with their passion, their wit, and their rhetoric.

Although there was no trophy this time, they were competing against other schools who have taken part in this competition  for many years. (This was the first time our Public Speaking Society had entered this competition).

Speaking after the event Joseph Roberts from Year 12 said “ a most enjoyable encounter and we were delighted that Archbishop Beck  more than held their own”.

What is the MACE Competition?

The Schools’ Mace was founded in 1957 and is one of the oldest and largest debating competition for schools in England, offering students from Key Stages 3 to 5 the opportunity to discuss and debate controversial topics and current affairs. In the process of the competition, students develop their knowledge of the world, as well as their reasoning and presentation skills, in a fun and competitive environment.
