Oustanding Success for College Public Speaking Team

Two teams from Archbishop Beck Catholic College, Liverpool demonstrated their public speaking skills at the prestigious English Speaking Unions, Liverpool and Merseyside Branch final. This event was held at Hope University  on Saturday 25th January.

Their topics included, Divorce is too Easy, to, Children should be seen and not heard.

Each team was made up of three students, including a main speaker, a chairperson and  a questioner.

The main speaker was allowed to speak for five minutes with the overall time allocated 15 minutes for introductions and questions.

The college senior team were awarded, Best Speaker to Ciara Miller, Best Chair to Matthew Brough and Best questioner to Jake Cliff. As well Ciara won the prestigious Molly Merivale Award for the Outstanding personality of the competition.

The competition adjudicators were Dr Stephe Harrop, Hope University, Mrs Liz Grundy, Headteacher from Longmoor Community  Primary School, Mr Lewis McCormick and Alina Maciag from ESU Poland.

A special presntation was given by the debating team from Longmoor Community Primary School. This presentation was recived to great acclaim

The afternoon saw 12 young students, from two schools give truly exceptional speeches. There was an exceptionally high quality of speaking the whole way through. All 12 people performed brilliantly.

The winning teams will now take part in the Regional Final to be in Cheshire in March.
