Thinking Outside the Box

On Thursday 30th January, Year 10 Art & Design students enjoyed an exciting, challenging and enjoyable 3Dimensional workshop at the creative campus of Liverpool Hope University.

‘We ordinarily think of paper as a two dimensional surface upon which we make our mark. Paper, however, is a malleable material and one that lends itself to all sorts of purposes-including the exciting possibility of turning the two dimensional plane into a three dimensional object. The Victorians made furniture out of laminated paper, capable of carrying the weight of a human.’

Students were challenged to create a free standing, three dimensional objects , which needed to be taller than themselves (without the aid of tools or any form of adhesive).

Students were encouraged to explore the physical properties of paper and think about various methods to fold,slot,roll,stack,splice their raw material.

Students have explored and undertaken further research of the art work of David Smith, Anthony Caro and Naom Gabo back at College.
