WORK EXPERIENCE 2017

As part of the Sixth Form study programmes all Year 12 students were involved in work placements during June and July.

Students were interviewed and placed into appropriate organisations that reflected their option choices and their future careers aspirations.

Students worked in a range of industry sectors including: health, architecture, construction, education, engineering, sport/leisure, legal and finance.

The students had a very worthwhile experience and we would like to thank all of the businesses involved as the experience will support the students future HE and career aspirations.

Women’s Careers Event

Expanding on from our successful work experience programme, we have forged some fantastic links within the NHS. We were recently invited to the Women’s Hospital in Liverpool to take part in their fantastic careers event. Year 12 students were able to gain access to professional advice in physiotherapy, neo natal, anti-natal, finance, estates management and many more.

Head of Sixth Form, Peter Lynch said – ‘We would personally like to thank Anne Bridson and Sarah Woods for all their hard work and support in providing so many opportunities for our students. The event was fantastic in providing information and inspiration at the same time!’

One of the year 12 students, Emma Southerden said – ‘I have learned that there are over 1,000,000 people employed in the NHS and that there a number of careers opportunities. It has provided me with the inspiration to work hard and achieve my goal of becoming a nurse.’

Santander Traineeship Opportunities

As part of our careers programme, we have developed and established links with both local and national organisations.

Working with Antony Stagg, who leads our careers programme and Alison Grimshaw of Santander, all of the students (7) who applied for the traineeship programme have succeeded in their interviews.

The traineeship leads to an advanced level apprenticeship and a multitude of opportunities to grow and develop within a global brand.

Year 12 student Lucy Williams commented – ‘I was unsure about the direction I wanted to go in. I was enjoying my options but felt ready for the world of work. The school helped with good advice and presented opportunities that have helped me feel good about the future.

One Parent commented – ‘A couple of months ago I was concerned for my sons future. He was studying hard but felt like the knowledge wasn’t sticking. However since receiving guidance from both Antony and the college, he is excited by the future and the opportunity Santander have presented.

Head of Sixth Form Peter Lynch commented on the fantastic opportunities the students have created for themselves with the major multinational banking organisation. ‘The successful students must now put their academic knowledge and the transitional skills they have developed into practice with this outstanding opportunity. On behalf of everyone in sixth form we wish them luck.’

The whole team were really impressed with Jack’s ability in Graphic Design and how quick he picked it up!

I have attached some images of him working as well as his own advert he designed for Jaguar.

I’m sending his work off to Jaguar today, any feedback I get I will share it with you.
