River of Hope
As part of the Queens Platinum Jubilee celebration, selected students from both Year 8 and Year 9 were invited to participate in the ‘River of Hope 2022’ art project. This is a partnership programme between Thames Festival Trust and the British Council. Artworks produced will feature in Totally Thames London and will be included on flags displayed during the Queens Platinum Jubilee Pageant on June 5th 2022. Another exciting initiative will involve the final artworks being digitalised and displayed on W1 Curates digital screens that are located across the UK during the bank holiday weekend.
The main theme of the workshop focused on climate change and environmental issues such as rewilding Liverpool. Students were encouraged to think about their hopes and aspirations for the planet over the next 70 years. Students enjoyed the challenge of working with willow to create sculptures inspired by design tasks. The artwork created will form the designs that will feature on the flags. The final flag designs are inspired by the Palio flags of Sienna as well as the postage stamp. Each flag design will also incorporate a silloheutte of the Queens head.
