The Holocaust Centre
The students were delegates at a History and RE Conferences for year 12 & 13 students. The conference included academic speakers, Dr. Isabel Wollaston, (Birmingham University) who presented “The Problem of Evil” and Prof. Aubrey Newman (University of Leicester) who presented “The Development of the Final Solution.”
The afternoon session featured a ninety minute testimony of a camp survivor – 83 year old Jeno Schwarzer (Eugene Black) whose moving personal experience account of the Holocaust enlightened the delegates to the reality of the Holocaust but also reinforced the notion that good will always overcome evil. Students spent time in the Peace/Memorial Garden and explored the Holocaust Exhibition and Museum.
Religious Studies teacher Dave Postlethwaite felt the trip was extremely worthwhile and of benefit to the students and suggests other schools take the opportunity to visit the centre. He quoted Ephraim Zuroff the Director of the Simon Wiesenthal Centre in saying “A place like The Holocaust Centre stands out as a beacon of light, enlightenment and education.”
Dave can be contacted at the school on 0151 525 6326 for additional information for those who may be interested in visiting the centre.
