Lent Begins at the College
“Let us not grow tired of doing good, for in due time we shall reap our harvest, if we do not give up. So then, while we have the opportunity, let us do good to all.” (Gal 6:9-10)
On Wednesday 2nd March the college community gathered for the distribution of the Ashes and to mark the beginning of Lent.
The ashes symbolize both death and repentance. During this period,Christians show repentance and mourning for their sins, because they believe Christ died for them.
As Easter approaches, many Christians and Catholics spend the 40 days between Ash Wednesday and Holy Week reflecting on the past year and preparing for Jesus to rise again.
The Lenten season is inspired by the 40 days Jesus spent in the desert preparing for his own sacrifice. During the 40 days of Lent, many people will give up something they love for example chocolate, alcohol or a favourite food.
Others like to spend the time reflecting and praying about something important to them, thinking about how they can become better or more prayerful people or how they can share Jesus’ love with the world.
