Sixth Form Parliament Trip
A group of 37 sixth form students were up early on a cold, wet Wednesday morning in March to board the 6.05am Avanti West Coast service to London Euston. The destination was the Palace of Westminster.
The visit consisted of a tour of the Palace, including time in the Royal Quarters, as well as the House of Lords and the House of Commons. The tour is hugely informative and will be of benefit to the many Business and History A level students in attendance.
At the end of the tour we were met by our MP for Liverpool Walton, Dan Carden. Dan is a friend of the college and is always keen to give his time to talk with students and answer the wide range of questions that came his way.
A small group were even fortunate enough to be able to attend the PMQ’s session that took place that lunchtime. It was a particularly memorable PMQ’s as the Ukrainian Ambassador to the UK was a special guest. The Ambassador received a rapturous welcome, and show of support, from the UK Parliament.
In the afternoon students visited the Sky Garden Viewing Deck in the City of London and then spent some free time visiting attractions.
Before our 8.07pm train home, the group met for an evening meal and to share stories from the day they had enjoyed.
Mr Lynch, Head of Sixth Form, commented on what a fabulous day it was for all concerned.
“The London Parliament visit is one students will remember for a long time. It is a unique opportunity to visit places we do not get to see very often, and despite the early start, the energy and enthusiasm from the students is amazing”.
Dan Carden MP will be coming into college later this year to speak to the wider college community to share his experiences of being an MP, and discuss the role he enjoys representing the constituents of Liverpool Walton in Westminster.
