Flying through the Air – Running like the Wind
“Flying through the Air” with the greatest of ease and “Running like the Wind” – Amazing People doing Outstanding Things
Congratulations to two intrepid members of the college community who achieved amazing success in fundraising ventures in the week beginning 17th April 2023. Neil Davidson did a SkyDive for the charity PAPYRUS. Followed by Joanne Traynor who ran the London Marathon for the charity Barnardo’s.
Headteacher Paul Stirling said “two amazing members of the college community doing amazing ventures for Charity. Truly amazing people doing outstanding things for the support of others”.
Message from Mr Davidson
I have worked in secondary education for 20+ years and have seen an increase in the amount of teens struggling with suicidal thoughts and feelings in recent years. The Covid pandemic has only exacerbated a problem that was already on the rise.
I have wanted to do a sky dive for a long time. I turned 50 last year and it was one of my bucket list things to do at some point…and the opportunity has now arisen to jump willingly out of a perfectly good aero plane to raise some money for a fantastic cause. On the 22nd April 2023 I will be heading to Lancaster to take part with people across four sites in the UK to Parachute for Papyrus. This day is also Earth Day – what a fantastic way to see the earth as I’ve never seen it before… from 13,000 ft and legs dangling out of an open plane door!
Thanks in advance for you support.
What is PAPYRUS?
PAPYRUS is the national Charity for the Prevention of Young Suicide. Suicide is the biggest killer of young people under the age of 35 in the UK, in 2018 over 1800 young people took their own lives. PAPYRUS provides confidential support and advice to young people struggling with thoughts of suicide, and anyone worried about a young person through their helpline, HOPELINEUK. Every £5 raised can help pay for a life-saving contact to HOPELINEUK. Your donations really are lifesaving, thank you.
