Making Maths accessible, enjoyable and engaging
“The study of mathematics, like the Nile, begins in minuteness but ends in magnificence.” Charles Caleb Colton
Ten of our students attended the Advanced Mathematics Support Programme Workshop Day at Liverpool University. The students took part in several workshops showing how Maths was applied in the real world, such as: the statistics used in medicine, using maths to predict the future and the maths behind magic tricks. After a lunch break, the students were given a lecture from hometown astronaut Jackie Bell, talking about how her choice of studying maths after GCSE enabled her to follow her dreams. Finally, the students finished the day with the Dragon Maths Competition, where they outperformed many other schools by working as a team to solve an array of different mathematical problems.
The organisers of the event praised the Archbishop Beck students, where enthusiasm, respectful participation and commitment were abundantly displayed.
