Students Visit Krakow Auschwitz
26 members of the college community have just returned from a 3 day trip to the Polish city of Krakow and prison camps of Auschwitz/Birkenau. (Wednesday 13th March-15th March 2013). Mr Postlethwaite from the Religious Education Department of the college said on his return, “The trip was a humbling, sobering experience for all those involved. It has implanted memories on them that will stay with them forever. That Auschwitz can still be visited today, acts as a stark reminder of Man’s inhumanity to Man and this moment in human history is summed up by the words of Edmund Burke
…”All that is necessary for evil to succeed is that good men do nothing.”
It is up to this generation of students to ensure that they don’t repeat the mistakes of past adult generations and have the strength and resolve to challenge injustice and intolerance in the world today”.
Sean a student from Year 9 said on his return to the college: “You can’t imagine how many people died at this sad place – and all for no reason except they were Jews”
