MtoGo Facility at Waterloo Station

Merseyrail, Liverpool’s train operating company have just recently opened a new MtoGo facility at Waterloo Train Station. Merseyrail entrusted Year 13 BTEC Business Studies students with the responsibility of managing and organising the official opening of the new MtoGo facility.

The official opening of the MtoGo facility was on Wednesday 24th November 2010 and the students did a tremendous job. They decided that ex-pupil Stephen Smith would be a great local celebrity to officially open the MtoGo facility, they asked Stephen because they felt he is an inspirational role model for them, he has shown them that with commitment, hard work, and self-belief you can achieve anything. The students are proud of Stephen, a Commonwealth Gold Medal winner and the current Commonwealth professional champion, they were grateful that Stephen supported them.

The students have been visiting Merseyrail once a fortnight for the past 12 months as part of the Business in the Community Initiative. The visits to Merseyrail have enabled them to apply the business theory they learn in school, seeing how it works in practise.

Mr Stirling, Assistant Head teacher at Archbishop Beck comments about the link that the school have with Merseyrail. “This business class opportunity has given the pupils the opportunity to develop independent learning skills which help them in their future education and future careers”. It has really raised their aspirations, motivated them to achieve their full potential and opened their eyes up to future job prospects”.

Due to the motivation of the Year 13 students, the opening of the new MtoGo facility at Waterloo Station was a huge success, the pupils were excellent ambassadors for the school. Well done!
