Le Grande Depart
Two teachers from Archbishop Beck Catholic College, Mike McNulty and John White, joined an estimated 60.000 spectators to see at first-hand the cyclists of the 2014 Tour de France as they powered their way through the resplendent Yorkshire countryside. The College’s own kings of the Mountain had to cycle the formidable height of Holme Moss which at 1719 ft is the highest point on Le Grande Depart.
A few hours later the peleton sped up Woodhead pass as though it was a mere speed bump. Can you spot race favourites Chris Froome and Alberto Contador in the photo below?
A truly memorable day for British sport in a year when we have not had much to cheer about. Hopefully it will not be too long before the ‘Tour’ returns to these shores.
