Innovative, Imaginative, Interesting!
“Everybody in this country should learn how to program a computer because it teaches you how to think.” Steve Jobs
Archbishop Beck Catholic College Year 9 students recently took part in extension work to develop their knowledge of programming.
The ‘Programming Workshop’ was led by staff at The University of Liverpool.
The main task for our students was to program Lego robots.
They programmed the robots to move around, speak, display messages and even simulated a vacuum cleaner!
The students used specialist software and equipment to develop solutions to problems and write the “code” to implement them.
Speaking after the event Mrs Langley, a teacher at the college, said “A fun day of learning with a very important educational content to it, our young people absorbed so much on the course and now have a deeper understanding of the knowledge of the programming process”
Mrs Langley added, I am reminded of the famous quote by Nolan Bushnell, (the American engineer and entrepreneur, who founded both Atari, Inc.) when he said, “I just want the future to happen faster. I can’t imagine the future without robots.”
