Students Remember the Holocaust

“How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.” Anne Frank

As part of the History Departments work with the UK based charity, ‘The Anne Frank Trust’, four Year 9 students were invited to attend the Holocaust Memorial Service on Wednesday 27th January. The students who represent the college were Liam, Alicia, Amy and Elizabeth. Amy was honoured to be asked by Marion McQueen, the school liaison for The Anne Frank Trust, to take part in the service. Amy told the story of a young girl named Daphrose from Rwanda who had experienced what it was like to live through the recent genocide in her country.

Speaking after the event Mrs Atkinson said “our students found the service to be very emotional, thought provoking and inspiring. Helping them to have a deeper understanding of the impact of this terrible event” adding that as Simon Wiesenthal said “For evil to flourish, it only requires good people to do nothing”.

We make sure that at the College, our students learn about the evil of the past so that they may be good citizens of the future.
